Vice Admiral Lou Crenshaw
Vice Admiral Lou Crenshaw, U. S. Navy (Retired), was an A-6 Bombardier/Navigator in the fleet and subsequently commanded an Attack Squadron, Carrier Air Wing and Carrier Battle Group. He also was Commander of Navy Region Europe and was the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Resources, Requirements and Analysis. He now enjoys retirement on Virginia’s Northern Neck with the lovely Mrs. Crenshaw and a host of grandchildren. VADM Crenshaw has served as NSHF’s Chairman of the Board since 2012.
Rear Admiral Jeffrey Hathaway
Rear Admiral Jeffrey Hathaway, U. S. Coast Guard (Retired) is a 34-year U.S. Coast Guard veteran, retiring from active duty in 2007. During his active duty career RADM Hathaway had command of several major cutters. While serving as the Navy’s Director of Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection, he was stationed at the Pentagon on 9/11/2001, when American Airlines flight 77 tore through the building. Surviving himself, 27 of his immediate staff perished as a result of the attack. He is currently president of Security Shield Associates and serves on several non-profit board of directors. RADM Hathaway has served as NSHF’s Vice Chairman since 2012.
Dr. Patricia Watts Kelley
Dr. Patricia Watts Kelley is a retired Navy Captain, Family and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, and research scientist. Her research and expertise focus on the care of military personnel, veterans, and their families—particularly in caregiver support and health promotion. She currently serves as the President of the NSHF Board.
Captain Mark Vanderberg
Captain Mark Vanderberg, U.S. Navy (Ret.), retired in 1997 after 27 years of active service. During his career, he commanded three aviation units—HS-5, HS-1, and COMHSWING ONE—as well as two naval ships, USS Mobile (LKA-115) and USS Nassau (LHA-4).
He has served on the boards of the U.S. Naval Institute and the Association of the U.S. Navy and as a director and trustee for the Naval Helicopter Association. A life member of the American Association of Individual Investors, he held the roles of Treasurer and later President of the Washington, D.C. chapter until 2006.
CAPT Vanderberg currently serves as Chair of the Finance Committee and as a member of the Board of Directors.
Vice Admiral James Amerault
Vice Admiral James Amerault, U.S. Navy (Retired), a member of USNA Class of 65, loved every moment of his 36-year career from Brown Water Navy to his last 4 years at the Pentagon. Presently, VADM Amerault helps his youngest daughter give back to NSHF through the apparel brands they started together, The Admiral’s Daughters & Old Salt, and as the coordinator of the Annual Southeast Region Golf Tournament. VADM Amerault serves as Chairman Emeritus, on the NSHF Board of Directors and is a founding member.
Chris Decker
Chris Decker is the President and Founder of Planate Management Group with more than 35 years of U.S. Navy Installations military and civilian installation management experience both in uniform and as a senior government civilian and contractor. Since 2007, Mr. Decker has led a diverse team of technical experts who are experienced in working in some of the most complex and difficult environments worldwide providing planning, design, construction, and professional services solutions mostly for Navy/NAVFAC/CNIC clients. Mr. Decker serves as Senior Vice President, on the NSHF Board of Directors and is a founding member.
Kip Route
As a Navy spouse of 50 years, Kip Route has been involved with military family issues for several decades. She was the CNO’s Ombudsman-at-Large; was a director of a non-profit devoted to Navy family readiness; and continues to facilitate a course for senior spouse leaders at National Defense University. Ms. Route serves as Secretary, on the NSHF Board of Directors.
Paul Dillon
Paul Dillon a Vietnam Veteran served in the United States Navy in various sea and shore billets. Retiring as a Master Chief in 1980 was employed by Northeast Utilities as a telecommunication manager at the Millstone Nuclear Power Station. Following retirement, in 1998 he volunteered at the Naval Submarine Base New London, CT Retired Activities Office (RAO) and currently serves as Director. Though this position he plays a vital part in yearly briefings of Military Retirees in Connecticut and surrounding States. He presently serves on Congressman Joe Courtney’s (D-2CT) Veterans Advisory Council. He serves as a member of the Secretary of the Navy Retiree Council, and is the President of the Nautilus Chapter of the AUSN.
Jerry Hieb
Mr. Hieb retired in 2022 after a distinguished 35-year civilian career with the Navy. Throughout his tenure, he held several senior leadership positions, including serving in the Senior Executive Service as Director of Fleet and Family Readiness (N9) for Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC). Additionally, he served as the CNIC N9 Deputy Director and previously as the Executive Director of Navy Region Midwest. He currently serves as the Treasurer and as a member of the Board of Directors.
Lorraine Currow
Lorraine Currow, U.S. Coast Guard (retired) served in both Coast Guard and Navy for a total of 22 years. She was a Navy Wounded Warrior competitor for the 2021-2022 season and currently is a Team USA Invictus Athlete. Additionally Mrs. Currow was the 2021 Navy Wounded Warrior Sailor of the Year. A proud advocate for adaptive sports, She currently works as a Recreation Therapist with the Army Recovery Care Program at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.
Pete McDevitt
Pete McDevitt is a retired Navy Commander and commercial airline pilot, who lives with his wife in Annapolis, MD. A sailing enthusiast, Pete volunteers as a captain for Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB), teaching sailing to those with physical and emotional disabilities, he also creates sets for a local community theater group, and is the Treasurer for his church.
Mark Stys
Mark graduated from the United States Naval Academy and holds a master’s degree from Webster University. He served as a United States Marine Corps Officer and CH-53 helicopter pilot and occasionally advises the Marine Corps on various strategic and economic topics. Mark’s financial services career began at Fidelity Investments in 1993 as a bond trader with Fidelity Capital Markets. He later became Head of Fixed Income and International Strategy, collaborating with various foreign and domestic investment firms to align brokerage and investment strategies with Fidelity. Mark left Fidelity in 2006 to join Stanford Capital Management, and two years later he co founded his own firm. He currently serves as President of WS Wealth Management, LLC.
CAPT (ret) USNR Civita Allard
is a Professor, Utica University of Nursing who has regulatory, leadership, and educational expertise. She has served in a variety of roles in education, with a focus on Medical Surgical Nursing, Leadership/Management, accreditation, and the development of innovation educational program development. Her experience as a Captain in the U.S. Navy and Professor affords her the ability to bring strong clinical and management skills to the classroom and academia. She has focused on assisting students to become stronger in their study skills and provides support to assist them in passing their licensing examination. She has taught students in a variety of settings, including classroom, online, and via other non-traditional platforms. She has developed and presented workshops, seminars, courses, and videos to support nursing education and student and faculty success. She is the recipient of several military and civilian awards including the New York State Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Alumni of Merit award for New York State. Allard lives in Upstate New York and has an extensive network of contacts in the healthcare delivery systems and the New York Community at large. She has extensive fundraising experience and success in the arena of securing donor support for academic scholarships and sponsorships. She is the CEO of Quality Training Solutions which offers medical educational programs.
Brenda Davidson
is a seasoned executive leader with over 30 years at Lockheed Martin, she has expertise in program management, accounting, and strategic planning. She served as Vice President (VP)of the Patriot Advanced Capability 3 (PAC-3) Program. Previously, as Director and Deputy Program Manager for Upper Tier Integrated Air and Missile Defense, she played a vital role in the THAAD system.
Ms. Davidson holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas A&M University of West Texas and a Master’s in Management from Southern Methodist University. Brenda is also a Board-Certified Public Accountant and Certified Professional Contracting Manager. In 2016, she received the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara award and is actively involved in her community through various board positions. She recently joined the Board as Directors, Navy Safe Harbor Foundation and will serve as VP for Resources and Development
